I love Song

Looks like that was not my last Song.

Yes, the event was cancelled at the very last minute.

I pleaded because I had hoped for the event to still continue if without the VVIP then the Deputy or whoever lah that is lesser of a VVIP than him. From the airport sampailah sambil makan roti bom yang sedap gile kat kedai mamak Nur Islamic cafe, I was constantly on the phone exchanging SMSes with the officer in charge. But when I got the final sms, all my hopes went down the drain at the mamak's place.

'U come back we'll have a bukak pose. We owe u one, my boss is on 5 days mc'

Back there when I was still in Sibu and Song, I had so many things that I would want to blog about, particularly, my dissatisfaction towards people's insensitivity. {Read:cancelling an event at the very last minute konon because of high fever and suspected H1N1, had to be on 5 days quarantine but the next day to be seen officiating another function!!!!!}

But, after reading K.Arida's blog about her experience and the people that she met in Song, I said to myself..why bother? These people have not been to Song. They ---- don't know the length that our people have gone to in order to ensure that the event will be a success and all of them are well taken care of. Don't see the excitement of the community in Song to know that there is a VVIP coming to their kampung -- the orang Iban siap pergi carik some exotic fruits in the forest for the guests. Understand how it feels to stay in a small rumah tumpangan called "Mesra Inn" for one week. Bila malam kebulur, you are given maggie mee and a can of sliced pork by the kampung folks as all the shops there close by 6.00pm. Take a 2-hr boat journey overloaded with people, when it was raining heavily and hanging on to dear life when the boat hits the kayu2 balak yang bersepah-sepah in the river.

Boat chartered. Hotel rooms booked. Police escorts were already on standby in Sibu and Song. Canopies were already put up. The stage was built. Food for 600 pax of people ordered. Kek lapis specially brought for Kuching dah dipotong kecik2.The one and only Mercedes-Benz in Song dah disewa for the VVIP. Nasib baik Numero Uno said that it's okay to just proceed with an activity with the people. So, we decided to have like a community thingy with them.We apologised for the cancellation, have some lucky draws and makan2 to make them happy.

Some say that it was like a paid holiday for us. But trust me it was far from a holiday. We still had to take the boat to and fro for 2 days.. we still had an event that we need to coordinate albeit without a VVIP. So penatnya sama aje. Yang mengurangkan rasa penat was the camaraderie of everyone involved... :)

Nak gi tempat banyak buaya kena la pakai crocs.. :)

Please..if not him then somebody else as a replacement...

The best roti bom ever! If you go to Sibu make sure you try this at Nur Islamic cafe opposite of RH Hotel.
The ride. Owner siap baru pasang bendera.
The floating petrol station. I don't know how they fuel up their boats and cars.
Boats that the people usually use.
The express boat.
Mangsa2 keadaan...
With the DO-Gallong ak Luang, residen2,tuai2 rumah,toke2 kedai, toke2 balak and police escorts.
Ni Orang-orang Besar Song...
At the jetty, about to board the boat to head back to Sibu after the event. Check out the happy faces.
Sibu town. Nothing much here either.

At RH Hotel. Should have taken Kelv's advice to stay at Tanahmas. Apparently it's much better than RH. I just got scared when Kelv said that Tanahmas has been there for 30 years so thought a newer hotel would be nicer.
Hmm... as much as I dread to think that I'll have to go to Song again after raya, I can't help but feel a lil' bit of love for the place. And like a politician, I feel that I owe it to the people to be there.
