I survived Song!

I am back!
I am still alive with all parts of my body/limbs still intact!
I am still sane despite the mental and physical torture!

First, I would like to 'thank' those who had made me feel so very traumatised even before going for this trip..because it was actually not as bad as what I thought it would be!

My journey started of course from KLIA and then to Kuching (which looked very much the same since the last time I've been there except now dah ada Coffee Bean.. woohoo!) and then I went on a Fokker plane (my first time) to Sibu town. Stayed at Kingswood Hotel, the one and only decsent hotel which had rooms for us... for a town that looked dead at 8pm and has a bakery called To-Be Bakery Sdn Bhd (????!!) I was surprised that the rest of the hotels were all fully booked! Had a hard time sleeping at Kingswood because Mr Tan, the Sarawak branch manager who travelled with us gave too much details on the hotel which included his own experience sleeping at a particular room which was haunted. The ghost had undressed one of the staff who was sleeping in the room with him. Must be a sexually deprived and naughty ghost, that one... :p

Woke up bloody early in the morning to catch the first boat to Song at 8am... This is the boat that we took! So semua cerita pasal naik boat yang horror tu memang tipu!!!!! Nyampah tau!!

It was a 2-hour journey braving through Sg Rejang.. boat owner was thoughful enough to play a DVD of Andy Lau's old movie with no subtitles.. so mengelamun was the next best thing..I actually caught a glimpse of a crocodile's tail while doing this..

Introducing Song!

We arrived at this jetty in Song..I am afraid of heights..I actually contemplated just staying in the boat.. look at how steep the jetty is..I was super duper terrified to jump off the boat onto the jetty.. huge gap between the boat and the jetty okay! Kalau takde orang pegang memang konfem tergolek dog kat situ.

And we have to fight our way through this crowd of people who were also fighting to get onto the boat! We were told that kalau air pasang, the boat will be betul2 on top of the jetty.

The VERY small town..Dunno why they even bother to have cars.. dahla tak ada petrol station..kena beli petrol kat rumah orang..

This is Mesra Inn.. the best place that they have if we ever need to stay in Song! The next option is a place called KawanSuka or SukaRamai or something like that... So hmm..no thank you.. I would rather lepak with the sexually deprived ghost in Kingswood..

Almost all the shops had these emm I dunno parabola eh.. And Headliner, fyi, I could not find a single shop serving Sarawak Laksa... Most of the kopitiam/small restaurants had 'exquisite' dishes like sup buaya.. daging musang goreng.. snakes..frogs.. sheeesssh!

Found a halal kedai makan and had this very sad looking nasik ayam..

We met the D.O, En Selamat..he is such a nice person and very helpful too..memang one day boleh jadi YB dia nih..Told us that he's of course bored to death la kena stay kat Song and the people there pun like going out of their minds already sebab takde mende nak buat... so he opens up a karaoke joint just below the place that he stays.. by the way, En. Selamat stays in one of the shophouses.. sian betul..

I was relieved to have met him because he will be the one to help us get the local community and govt agencies in Song to provide the necessities should we have the launch of the branch next month... It costs about RM 40,000 just to get some canopies to be brought to Song from Kuching (Sibu pun tak ada canopy supplier okay!) but he said that he can just get from the schools, JKR (wujud lagi,eh?), Jabatan Penerangan and some local folks and we just have to pay probably RM 5K ajer and another 1K for the local kids who can help out with the set-up..

We hopped in En. Selamat's Pajero and went deeper inside Song... winding road and very bumpy although jalan ada tar... itupun few kms aje yang bertar.. about 3kms after the bridge it's all jalan tanah merah tu..

Sg. Katibas..

Kids going to school crossing Sg. Katibas.

When En. Selamat said that we're going to see some rumah panjang I imagined that it would be like those we see on TV lah kan.. but rumah panjang skarang dah modern.. of course the rumah panjang old version tu wujud lagi but it will be at the really really really ulu place.. and the local people there tak berapa suka if orang luar comes esepcially those who may not be able to understand their adat well..

Inside the rumah panjang... this empty space is where everybody lepak and menenun or do whatever this ol' lady is doing.. it's called the 'ruai'..each of the door has a differrent family staying in there..

That's the Tuai Rumah next to the D.O..we were actually pressed for time because we have to make sure that we catch the first afternoon boat back to Sibu.. but the D.O said that if Tuai Rumah dah ajak we have to masuk and at least jamah the food.. it's like a pantang la.. kalau tak masuk and anything happens at the kampung like banjir ke..ribut ke.. then it would be our fault!By the way, the skinny pakcik in orange t-shirt has a big tattoo of a lady in bikini..don't play2..

By the time we reached the jetty, there were already hundreds of people there! We managed to masuk the boat..there were no place for us to sit except the at the tangga.. I was dead tired.. tangga is a whole lot better than standing for 2 hours..

Even slept at the tangga despite being squashed like sardines.

I save the best for last...

Reached the Sibu jetty and saw this man.. selamba giler beb.. very picturesque indeed! :)

All in all it was not that bad la... a pretty good experience... oh yeah... I need to mention this.. I think Sarawakian guys are very good looking... not just many but seriously a majority of them are... and I wonder why people say Sarawakian girls are cun because they are just so-so la.. really, nothing to shout about ler... unlike the men... hahaha..

Hmm... I wish I could say that I would never want to go to Song ever again.. but obviously for the launch I will have to.. *sigh*..

And looks like this May is a month of travelling.. pity the kiddies.. I will be going for yet another adventure to a place with yet another weird name... We are starting the shoot/production of the bank's new corporate TVC...
This Monday, for the shoot we are going to an Orang Asli settlement in Perak somewhere in Kg Beng nearby Tasik Temenggor.. because the shoot will be done as early as 7.00am I've to stay overnight in Belum Resort at Tasik Banding and then take a boat to the settlement...

By the way, while I'll be at a 1 star reasort guarded by the mosquitoes, hubby will be in Chiang Rai Thailand at a 5 star hotel for 5 days.. work and conference (yeahhh ritttteee)... See.. gomen people pun dapat pegi cool places okay..
The last weekend in May will be spent at Kg.Tekek, Tioman for a CSR and environmental program... haiyaa... I should be Tourism Malaysia's Ambassadress lar..
Have a nice weekend peeps!
